Extended Day:  The Extended Day Committee works with the director of the Extended Day program at Taylor to provide assistance from the PTA. Historically a small portion of the PTA budget ($250) has been flagged for discretionary use by the Extended Day director. In addition, the committee coordinates small gifts at the holidays for the Extended Day staff.

Fifth Grade Dinner: Plan, decorate, set up, serve food, and clean up.

Finance: Perform year-end audit of PTA budget.

First Day Packets: Collate materials to be sent home the first day of school.

Foreign Language:  This committee manages the before school Foreign Language Program, an enrichment activity designed to provide exposure to foreign language learning at the elementary level. Co-chairs work in conjunction with a contract agency to hire native speakers of a variety of foreign languages, all of whom have experience teaching their language to young children. The committee welcomes volunteers and is seeking at least one parent per foreign language class to help with classroom observation, parties, and dissemination of information.

Grocery Receipts/Box Tops: Serve as a point person for Taylor under the Giant, eScrip by Safeway, and Harris Teeter receipts program and the Boxtops 4 Education program, which make cash payments to Taylor for educational needs.  Coordinator's activities include:  keeping Taylor's registration current and signing up purchasers under the program; advertising the programs by backpack mail, the Tattler, website, posters, etc.; and collecting, counting and submitting boxtops from time to time.

Hospitality:    The chair is responsible for organizing refreshments for Back to School Night in September and PTA meetings as needed.

Ice Cream Social:   A night of free family fun in late January. Come to the multipurpose room to make sundaes, listen to music, and socialize with other Taylor families. Top off the event with the International Dance performance in the gym.

Reflections Art and Literature Contest:   Reflections is a nationwide program that encourages students to submit works of art, music, literature, and photography to express a theme. Though not a "contest," works are judged according to age and ability and advance from local to national levels. It's a great way to allow students' creativity to flow! It's fun! It's free!

Sally Foster Gift Wrap Sale:   Sally Foster is Taylor's second largest fundraiser after the "No Frills" Spring Fundraiser. A well-established gift-wrap company, Sally Foster offers very high quality giftwrap items, gifts and gourmet chocolates at reasonable prices. HALF of all sales (50%) goes directly to Taylor for the school to purchase whatever it needs for the year in supplies and equipment. Two co-chairs or one chair are needed to head this event, which includes distributing the catalogues and order forms, collecting the orders from parents, and then distributing the shipment when it arrives in November.

School Pictures:   In addition to providing a treasured keepsake for parents, sales of individual student pictures, taken in the fall, and class pictures, taken in the spring, raise money for Taylor PTA-sponsored events. Scholarship assistance is available for students on free or reduced lunch so that all Taylor Tigers may have pictures of when they were cubs.

School Supplies and Store:  If you like retail or have ever wanted to own your own business, the Taylor PTA School Supplies Committee is for you!!! This Committee consists of volunteers who organize the ordering, sales, and distribution of school supplies for Taylor students at the beginning of each school year. We also manage the School Store throughout the year.
The School Supplies Committee contacts teachers each spring to identify their desired school supplies lists for the following year, by grade. Supplies are ordered from a variety of vendors over the summer. Volunteers package the supplies into start-up kits and sell them to students on the first day of school. The small profit that the PTA earns on each kit is used to stock the School Store with inventory to sell during the school year. The Committee coordinates with the School Guidance Counselor, who identifies and trains 5th grade students to operate the Store each morning during the year. The PTA volunteers to help supervise the 5th graders each weekday from 8:30-9:00am. The Committee orders and prices stock for the Store each month.
Children of all ages love shopping at the School Store, and the 5th graders enjoy working in a job that incorporates skills of sales, money management and customer service!

Special Education Parent Group:   Join this relaxed, supportive gathering which meets once a month to exchange ideas and techniques that have helped our children or simply sign up for e-mail notices related to Special Education issues.

Spring Fair:  The Spring Fair takes place the Saturday before Mother's Day and includes activities such as games, fun food, moon bounce, lunch, book and music sale, garden shop, Mother's Day Secret Shop, cake walk, and face, nail, and hair painting.  Volunteers work in 1-2 hour shifts at indoor/outdoor games, sales, or events.

Spring Fundraiser:  The Spring NoFrills Fund-Raiser is Taylor PTA's primary fund-raising activity. Money raised through donations is used to underwrite activities such as Kennedy Center tickets for all Taylor students, teacher discretionary funds, and trips to the outdoor education lab. Last year, three contributing families were selected to receive a prize as thanks for their participation. Taylor Elementary provides a first-rate education for our children, and endowing the PTA through family donations puts the icing on the cake! Volunteers for this committee will help design/distribute NoFrills flyers, decorate the Taylor lobby, and process donations.

Taylor Pride: Identify monthly themes to bolster school pride; coordinate school pride activities.

“Taylor Tattler”: Solicit articles and advertisements; publish monthly school newspaper.

“Teacher of the Year” Award: Prepare nomination package.

Volunteers: Prepare form, match volunteers, including homeroom parents, with teachers throughout the year.

Web Site:   Update PTA web site with current news and information.
